WHAT IS THE SMC ?

The Self Made Community was created in October 2024; as a place where creativity and true connection can come together. WWhat began as a personal self-made journey became a realization: we are all self-made, each through our story and our art. We build a community around that messge. Welcoming everyone with a hook, tufter, knitting needle, or just a love of creativity to the Self Made Community.

Through classes, crochet challenges, and shared creativity, the Self Made Community celebrates more than just the art of making. Celebrating the people behind the stitches. Each piece, each lesson, and each moment of growth reminds us that being “self made” isn’t about doing everything alone. It’s about building something real from passion, perseverance, and heart. Every stitch, class, and connection in the Self Made Community is a small step forward proof that growth is handmade too.

Rather than seeking perfection, we honor progress just 10 % better than the day before.

WHO IS “SELF” ?

I’m “Self” the maker, teacher, and founder behind the Self Made Community.

As a mom of four (you may see on the tik tok live from time to time) and a lifelong creative from NYC, I started this journey searching for purpose through my own two hands. I was missing a creative outlet and facing one of the lowest points in my life mentally. I remember sitting on the floor, crying over the magic circle. It took me two weeks to finally master it and when I did, the feeling of accomplishment was overwhelming. Holding something tangible that I had created from an idea was a kind of healing I’d never felt before.

When I became a TikTok host, I began to find others who felt the same way people who were searching for connection, creativity, and meaning. Sharing my story of growing up without my parents opened doors to deeper conversations and genuine bonds. We connected beyond yarn and hook but also through our shared resilience and creativity.

That’s how the Self Made Community was born and how it continues to grow.

Everything I teach or share carries that belief: being self made means showing up for yourself, honoring your craft and your journey, and doing just a little better than yesterday.
